Since his Company debut in 2005 leading Verdi’s La Forza del Destino, the Tuscan-born maestro has led over 30 SFO productions and concerts to date. Luisotti took the position in September 2009, replacing Donald Runnicles 17 year run. He delivered the news Wednesday at War Memorial Opera House before the full company of staff, musicians, chorus, dancers and crew.Īnnounced by SFO General Director David Gockley as the Company’s third music director in 2007, Mr. Nicola Luisotti will end his term as music director of the San Francisco Opera (SFO) when his contract expires at the end of the 2017-18 season.
